Inclusive ASEAN Perspective on Rights and Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities

On the auspicious occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University; we are pleased to announce an international conference on disability focusing on future challenges of Persons with Disabilities in Southeast Asian countries. The conference will include panel discussions and keynote addresses by eminent leaders, scholars and practitioners within the Disability sector in Southeast Asia. We aim to critically engage and discuss challenges and opportunities in enhancing the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the ASEAN region. We invite you to participate in our activities through paper presentations or participation in the ASEAN disability forum, Braille forum, innovation contest, and interactive workshops. We hope to see many people from abroad and in Thailand joining our first international conference on disability. We are positive that you will be able to learn new things, share ideas and network with people of similar interest. Our campus is fully accessible for people with disabilities. All participants including presenters and exhibitors must register for the conference. Disabled person and accompanying person must register separately. See registration fee section for different registration rates and register on-line now. Make a note of your user name and password for registration changes. After online registration you will be given a registration number for future reference. You may also download our registration form and send completed information via email. Call for papers:

You are invited to submit papers in the form of research results or practical services related toward disability to our selection committee. Topics can be cross disability issues or specific disability issues of following categories; Policy, Quality of Life, Assistive Technology, Education, Employment, Innovation, and more. We are interested in the work in ASEAN region but all disability related papers are welcome. Papers must be submitted in English and will be considered peer-review papers. Presentation can be in English, Thai or sign language. Sign language interpreter in Thai will be provided.

Due to many requests on abstract-only format, we have decided to provide another option for those who are interested in submitting abstract only and present your information either in English, Thai or sign language. The abstract must be in English. Use the same "paper guidelines and sample form" file to complete your abstract. You may submit your abstract from now until January 31, 2014. These additional presentations will not be considered peer-review but the abstracts will appear on the Conference proceedings.

ASEAN forum:

Both Disability Forum and Braille Forum will be held in the morning and afternoon of February 21st so interested participants can join both discussion groups. We are inviting individuals with experience in cross disability issues from all ASEAN countries to present country reports and contribute to the discussion. For those with special interest in Braille and its development, we are inviting individuals with experiences in Braille of their particular languages from all ASEAN countries to present Braille development reports and contribute to the discussion as well. If you are knowledgeable in disability issues or Braille development and would like to be a key member of the discussion, choose discussion forum that you are interested in when you register and we will contact you for more details. Partial support may be granted to some discussion members.

Exhibition and innovation contest:

Organizations and companies that are interested in presenting your work or products during the two-day conference can register as an exhibitor. This would be a good opportunity to promote your services and products in Thailand and other ASEAN countries. Indicate "Exhibitor" when you register and we will contact you.

Individuals with innovative ideas that would like to share and show-off their work can participate in our innovation contest. This can be educational media, assistive technology (both basic and high technology), independent living aids, information and communication technology, accessible environmental design, and more. You can display your work during the two-day conference and present in front of the audience either in English or Thai on February 21st. Judges will review your work and winners will be announced at the end of the conference. Indicate "Innovation presentation" when you register and we will contact you.

Hands-on workshop:

On the occasion of our 20th year anniversary, we would like to share some of our work through a few hands-on workshops which will be conducted in Thai. Come and get an introduction of Thai sign language from our fine interpreters and get a feel of how we help newly blind individuals become independent and productive again. Choose the type of workshop that you want to participate in when you register.

Registration fee

All participants must register for the conference. Choose all events that you will be participating in and pay only one registration fee that meets your major role in the conference.

There are different rates for participants from abroad and Thai participants. Reduced rate is available to Accompanying person. An accompanying person may be a sighted guide, a sign language interpreter or a personal assistance traveling with a disabled person.

To save bank transfer fee for both international and Thai participants, you may make one transfer for several registrations. When sending your money transfer information, please specify name and registration number of everyone included in the transaction.
