On 22nd May 2019, Dr. Sunanta Klibthong, Acting Deputy Dean for Research and International Relations, together with Asst. Prof. Natee Chiengchana, Ph.D., Head of Deaf Studies Department welcomed Prof. Maribel Gárate, Ph.D., Dean of Department of Education from Gallaudet University, USA and officers from USA Embassy in Thailand for a study visit at Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University. The purpose of their visit is to exchange professional knowledge and experiences in the education of the Deaf. On this occasion, Prof. Gárate and team also visited the Department of Deaf Studies and Museum of the Deaf. Prof. Gárate is one of the world's leading experts in bilingual education for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. She holds two master's degrees in Deaf Education: Elementary and American Sign Language in Linguistics and Ph.D. in Deaf Education with a focus on Bilingual Education. Her research interests focus on the implementation of bilingual methodologies to allocate American Sign Language (ASL) and English in classrooms for Deaf and hard of hearing children, and the ways in which teacher's beliefs about ASL / English Bilingual Education influence their practices.
